Thane: Fruit seller duped by online scamster

THANE: A fruit seller from the city was duped of nearly Rs 98,000 after falling prey to the online scamsters who offered loans at lower interest rates and siphoned money on pretext of various charges.
The police said that the victim is a resident of Padwal nagar in Wagle estate and sells fruit in the Mulund area.
It was recently, the victim received a text message stating that they are offering loans at lower interest rates.
“As the complainant was in need of money, he called on the number given as he wanted to renovate his house,” said a police officer.
The accused asked his requirement to which the victim said that he requires Rs 5 lakh loan and his monthly income is nearabout about Rs 40000, the police informed.
The accused using different phone numbers assured him of getting a loan and told him that he will have to shell out processing fees, GST , Insurance etc and paid nearly Rs 98,000.
In the meantime, to convince the victim, they sent him the loan approval letter as well as other receipts to look at the deal as genuine one.
But whenever, the victim started asking about the loan amount to be deposited to his account the accused gave evasive answers and later did not answer their call. It was then he realised that he had been duped.
The accused then registered a case with the Shri nagar police station under wagle estate division of Thane city and further probe is underway in this regard.
