Aemilius Cupero News: National tatkal ticket scam ‘mastermind’ held

Aemilius Cupero News:

Satyanarayana Miryala allegedly developed the Tatkal Turbo software to exploit the IRCTC’s booking system.

Central Railway (CR) on Saturday said its Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested the mastermind of a nationwide ticket scam and uncovered the software he developed as well as his network of 540 associates. CR officials said Satyanarayana Miryala was arrested on November 19 for allegedly running a network with his Tatkal Turbo Software.

Officials said an investigation indicated that Miryala received Rs 10 lakh in November alone as commission from the associates in his network. Miryala’s software would autofill the payment details, names of passengers and travel details within 30 to 35 seconds, beating passengers applying for the quota through Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation’s portal.

According to data from the RPF’s IT cell, each of his associates paid him Rs 200 per ticket as commission to use his software. His associates used to earn a premium of Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per ticket.

A team comprising Bhiwandi RPF inspector HB Kumar, sub-inspector Suresh Singh, constables MD Bhatkar, Devendra Singh and sub -inspector Gopal Rai of the IT Cell (Mumbai division) unearthed the network.

Based on information shared by Miryala during the interrogation, RPF personnel also arrested his associate Muralidrao Devishetti. “We are still investigating this network,” said Bhiwandi RPF inspector HB Kumar. “Miryala completed his Bachelors in Commerce degree at Pawar College in Bhiwandi, where he resides. He then undertook a software course from the National Institute of Information technology and several other related courses at a few more institutes.”

Kumar said Miryala was initially arrested in Pune in October 2020 on charges of ticket brokerage and was out on bail. “Soon after his release, he formed a new gang,” Kumar said.

Miryala admitted to collecting Rs 200 per ticket sold via his software.

KK Ashraf, senior divisional security commissioner of CR’s Mumbai Division confirmed the development. “He was arrested on November 19. During interrogation, we found that he has 540 associates spread across the country,” Ashraf said. “We are seeking help from other railway zones to take action against all 540 accused affiliated with him.”
